There is an haute couture wedding gown shop on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II in Rome that has incredible window displays. From across the street I observed that every passerby was, to varying degrees, reacting to the displays in the shop windows. Surely, a photo opportunity will present itself, I thought to myself, and moments later it did. I doubt that the two gentlemen in the photo were in the market for a wedding gown, but I had to admire their sense of the aesthetic that caused them to look. Finding beauty in the everyday is definitely an Italian moment!
“Window Shopping” won Second Prize in the Accenti Magazine Photo Contest and was displayed at the 5th Accenti Magazine Awards during the 12th Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary Festival in April 2010.
Robert Norton grew up in Montreal, and has called Toronto home for the past 30 years. As a real estate appraiser by profession, he is often behind a camera, as visual communication is an integral part of every appraisal report he prepares. Although he is a fan of traditional film, Robert now favours digital photography because it allows him greater creative control over the entire imaging process. The results have been several competition awards, the publication of several of his images in magazines both in Italy and in North America, and a recent solo exhibit of his Formula One racing images.
