This volume completes a trilogy on the social history of Vancouver’s Italians and their institutions. Ray Culos began seriously chronicling the achievements of the Italian community in 1998 with the release of Vancouver’s Society of Italians, Volume I, an enlightened historical review of the leadership personalities and their respective fraternal societies. The first edition sold out in nine weeks. A second printing also sold out, all copies having been purchased by an appreciative audience. In 2002 Ray followed this success with Vancouver’ Society of Italians, Volume II, which provided a contemporary look at the societal organizations as they approached one hundred years of progress. Within the pages of this volume is a sensitive perspective of the value of the Italian Cultural Centre as it enters its transition phase. No longer able to rely on membership renewal from immigrants arriving from Italy, the Centre is presently engaged in modifying its demographic user targets. Tomorrow’s youthful members will include Canadians of Italian origin and others who have an affinity for the treasure trove of Italian history, culture, language and the legacy of the Italian Renaissance achievers and dreamers.
