This is a book of acquaintances and encounters, rich in anecdotes that are serious and amusing, whimsical and captivating – sharing a deep sense of humanity. This is a book of love, a tribute to the beauty and the surprise of encounters, often “extraordinary,” as the author would say. It gathers brief tales of moments lived and cherished by those who stop, buy, taste, and engage in a conversation. Luciano the “chestnut roaster” is no longer alone but with a child who for the first time, upon touching a warm chestnut, smiles and opens his eyes wide for joy; or with a couple of young people who put the bag in their pocket to later express an intimate and secret craving – just like one does when peeling the first chestnut.

Luciano Pradal was born on June 11, 1942 in Vittorio Veneto, North of Venice, Italy. In 1966 he immigrated to Ottawa, where he has been an active member of the Italian Community. He was the co-founder of the Associazione Trevisani di Ottawa and, in his capacities as president of the Association, he promoted many cultural events in the Italian Community. He currently writes for Il Postino. In 2003, Pradal cooperated with Mauro Peressini for the exhibit Presenza that was held at the Museum of Civilizations, now Museum of History.
