Pierre Desjardins’ passion for boating began as a boy, sailing on Lake St. Louis. He started competing in the y-Flyers class in the early 1950s, winning the Canadian and North American championships in 1957 and 1958. He represented Canada at the 1960 Rome Olympics in the Flying Dutchman class, and in 1962 at the World Championships in St Petersburg, Florida. He represented Canada again in 1963, 1965, and 1967 at the World Championships in the Dragon class. In 1963 he married Jane Allan; together they have two children, André and Claire. In the summer of 1976, the family sailed down the Thames River, across the English Channel, through the French canals, and onto Portofino and Genoa, Italy. Pierre has crossed the Atlantic Ocean three times in different vessels and with various crews. He won the silver medal at the Pan Am games in the Flying Dutchman class in Chicago in 1959. Today, he is retired after a long and fruitful career as an insurance broker.

From Anecdotes and Antidotes…
The stories in this book are based on my recollections, perceptions, imagination, distortion and, when committed to paper, the outcome may be questionable. The humorist Robert C. Benchley used to say, “I may be wrong but …” I have always been impressed and intrigued by the ingenuity and creativity of people, and so I kept a notebook as they came in and out of my life. Now, at 85, I am pleased to share some of these stories and experiences with you.
