Guanti Bianchi

I took the photo in Napoli’s iconic Piazza del Plebiscito. The pattern of the soldiers marching in formation initially caught my attention. In particular, the stark contrast of their white gloves really stood out to me. I remember thinking as I composed this image that I had to hurry and capture the photo before the soldiers crossed the white line. For me that line gives an added dimension to the image, creating a sense of anticipation and possibility for the viewer: is something going to happen when those guanti bianchi cross over that line?

Guanti Bianchi won Third Prize in the 2011 Accenti Magazine Photo Contest and was displayed at the 6th Annual Accenti Magazine Awards during the 13th Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary Festival in April 2011.

Robert Norton grew up in Montreal, and has called Toronto home for the past 30 years. As a real estate appraiser by profession, he employs photography as a means of visual communication integral to the appraisal process. Robert favours reportage, abstract expressionism, and capturing images of things that move fast! The results have been several competition awards, the publication of several of his images in magazines both in Italy and North America, and a recent solo exhibition of his Formula One racing images.
